Computer repair in Devon

Devon stretches from the Exe to the Tamar and from the Bristol Channel coast down to the South Hams. A workshop habit that makes sense beside Exeter Central can be useless in a lane above an estuary. This hub only links places we have actually written about.

Devon town guides

Two cities, then a long tail of towns

Exeter and Plymouth are the only places in Devon where a bus, a campus and a shopping street all sit in one centre. Everywhere else the choice is a market-town counter, a mobile visit, or a trip to one of those cities. Newton Abbot and Totnes have stations on or beside the main line, so a drop-off can be planned around a train. Salcombe does not. Kingsbridge, a few miles inland from Salcombe, already has its own page on this domain; this hub links to it and leaves that page alone.

Dartmoor sits in the middle. A driver who looks at a county map and assumes Totnes and Tavistock are neighbours is ignoring the moor. North Devon, along the Taw and the Torridge, is another journey again. This hub does not pretend those towns have guides yet. If your machine is in Barnstaple, Bideford, Ilfracombe or Okehampton, do not treat an Exeter page as if it were local.

Roads, rail and the summer coast

The M5 reaches Exeter and then stops being a motorway. The A38 carries on to Plymouth and the Tamar. The A380 drops from the Exeter side toward Newton Abbot and Torbay. None of those roads is a promise that a parts van arrives the day you hope. In August the South Hams lanes fill with holiday traffic, and a cottage booking that ends on Saturday will not wait for a screen that lands on Monday.

Rail is kinder in the middle of the county than people expect. Exeter St Davids, Newton Abbot, Totnes and Plymouth are on the same main line. The Paignton branch leaves at Newton Abbot. Salcombe, the South Hams villages and much of Dartmoor are off that spine, so 'I will pop it in on the way past the station' is a city habit, not a county one.

What to agree before a machine leaves your street

Across Devon the useful question is where the device sleeps, not which slogan is on the van. A city counter, a unit on an industrial estate, or a kitchen table in a different town are three different risks. Ask for a written note of the fault, the price of looking, and whether files are copied off before any reset. If the disk itself is the thing you care about, say that before anyone 'refreshes' Windows to save time.

This county page does not rank businesses and does not quote a call-out fee. Prices move, and we have not surveyed them. When a business is checked, it will be attached to one town, labelled if it has paid for placement, and kept separate from this editorial text.

Devon questions

Is every Devon town covered here?
No. The links above are the guides that exist. Villages and other towns stay off this list until there is a page worth reading. We are not building a page per hamlet.
Why does Kingsbridge look different from Salcombe?
Kingsbridge already had a page at its own address. This directory links to it and does not rewrite it. Salcombe is a new guide under the Devon hub.
Can I use the Plymouth guide for a job in north Devon?
Only as general reading. Barnstaple and the north coast are not Plymouth, and this hub does not claim they share a workshop.

List your business

If you repair machines in a Devon town and you want a card on that town's page, wait for the verification step. Until then the lists stay empty on purpose. We will keep a Google place id for a checked business and we will not copy a maps listing onto the site. Paid placement, when it exists, will be labelled. It will not invent stars.
